Perfect Moment Monday -- Preview of Our Year-Long Adventure

James, Bryce and Ryan waiting to board our plane home.
Each week I participate in Perfect Moment Monday, sponsored by the blog, WriteMindOpenHeart.com According to Lavender Luz, "Perfect Moment Monday" is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect Moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between." And so, here is a Perfect Moment for this week.

I mentioned in a previous post that we will be moving for the 2011-12 school year. A couple of weeks ago, the entire family flew out to our new, temporary home to check it out. It was the first step of our year-long adventure.

Our new town is a beautiful place, very green, and very different from our current, dry, more desert-like location. As we were flying in, the boys commented on how green it was, and they wondered where the stucco houses were. :)

There were mixed emotions (of course) for all of us. The boys are most worried about not being around their friends, the transition into a new school/town, etc.

Tom is curious about returning to school full time. He finished his first Master's degree over ten years ago.

Me?  I wonder if I will find the type of yoga I like to teach and practice, have questions about continuing my life coaching while I'm gone, wondering where we will live (we haven't confirmed our housing assignment yet), etc.

All very valid concerns.

Tom and the boys touring one of our nearby cities.
Yes...our new home will be different from where we live now (and where the boys have lived their entire lives), but that's part of the beauty of our year-long adventure...stepping out to try something new and different.

While we were there, we toured the high school, which was big, fairly new, and offered a great selection of academic, athletic and extra-curricular activities. We saw the town and the post where Tom will be going to school.

Sunrise on the way to the airport for an early flight home.
I met with the fitness facility director (on the post) to talk to him about teaching yoga and indoor cycling while I'm there, and also met with one of the area's well-known yoga instructors to talk to her about yoga classes, teaching opportunities, etc.

Moving feels scary and unsettled (especially for me the Taurus who loves routines and predictability), but even breaking out of that is part of the journey.

My sister, Tami, says that she likes to do one thing a year that scares her, just to keep her feeling alive. This move is my one (big) thing this year that is pushing me to the edge of my comfort zone...and I know Tom and the boys are feeling the same way.

As I saw the boys in the airport looking out the window, I was caught up in the perfectness of the moment and of this adventure we all get to take together...before they very quickly graduate and move on with their lives.

The perfectness of this journey is wrapped in anticipation and excitement, through and around all of the thoughts and feelings we have as we move forward, plunging (immersing ourselves) into the mystery of what lies ahead.

During our exploratory trip, I experienced several Perfect Moments and anticipate many more as we approach our moving date (and beyond). YIKES!!!

I'm glad the visit went well and remember that the beauty of the internet is that you can take us all with you on the computer.

I really like what Kristin said :-).

I'm a little bit jealous of you getting to do such a big new thing. I know it will exceed the expectations each of you have for the year. Adventures are like that.

How perfect and exciting to be embarking on such an adventure! I have a neighborhood friend that is preparing to spend the summer with her family in London, as her husband will be working there for two months. I keep teasing and asking my husband to see what he can do about such an overseas (thought domestic could be fun and interesting too) adventure for our family someday! I wish you and your family the best during this time of transition and look forward to following along on your journey with you via your blog (as Kristin suggested)! :)

I am very excited for all of you Sheri. I know it's scary but change can be really good for the soul. Even if it's a temporary change. I believe it really helps all of us grow!! Your boys will do great and what a wonderful learning experience for all of you.

I fully agree with the doing something that scares you... in a good way. It is so invigorating, and I learn from and get the most out of it.
